Watching Iain Softley's motley, jewel-toned adaptation of Inkheart, the best-selling 2003 young-adult novel by Cornelia Funke, I had the distinct sensation of being a young bookworm again, falling into a world as vividly real as it is impossible. In Funke's universe — given voice in a screenplay by fantasy-friendly playwright David Lindsay-Abaire—a literature lover named Mo (Brendan Fraser) possesses a dangerous talent for bringing characters from books to life when he reads aloud. The downside? When a fictional figure comes alive, a real person must disappear into the book's pages.

i was not impressed with this movie. i was looking for a good martial arts movie but instead found an overly ambitious attempt at action/drama. the few fight scenes were good, but they were too few and far between.

Where do I start? I feel ashamed that I wasted the precious minutes of my life watching this movie past the 10th minute. First, most of the actors in this movie do not even deserve the title of "actor". It felt like the person who casted this movie just asked some of his best friends to be in the movie or picked people off the street. Seriously, this was some of the worst acting I have ever seen.

In recent weeks, I ran out of shit to watch… which led to me actually renting Steven Seagal movies at my local video store. As I stood there, holding Against the Dark and Driven to Kill in my hands, I began to flush with embarrassment… and then I became mad, because there was once a time when you could stand in a video store line with a Seagal movie in your hand and not have everyone think that you’re a ***ing moron… yeah, they might think you have bad tastes, but it didn’t mean you were a moron. Thankfully, this vampire-fueled dystopic romp was worth all the excuses that I spewed at the clerk at the counter perused my choices… speaking of which… why can’t those ***s just check the shit out and shut the *** up? You work at a Blockbuster. You think I give a *** what you thought of Blindness. You click buttons and alphabetize things!

Vikram K Kumar, the writer director of 13B has had an illustrious career, which began as an assistant to Priyadarashan. His latest film, 13B, has been made in Hindi and Tamil, with R Madhavan and Neetu Chandra playing the lead in both versions. The film, which belongs to the horror genre might just about arouse curiousity and generate a tad bit of suspense, but if it's horror that the makers are doling out, then they have definitely got the wrong address. There is nothing in the film which could get one scared, startled maybe. 13B has an interesting premise and towards the climax it does manage to pick up pace. But the overall impact is hardly exciting.
