MiniKnoppix is a all-in-one sysadmin rescue CD. MiniKnoppix is a Linux Live CD based on Knoppix. Basically it is a complete and totally functional GNU/Linux operating system that boots and works from the CDROM. This way there's no need to install it on the hard drive.
Knoppix is (possibly) the best Linux Live CD nowadays. The original version fits in a 74 minutes (650MB) CDROM and carries more than 900 software packages ranging from office applications, development tools, multimedia players, ames, different desktop environments and almost anything you can think of.
MiniKnoppix is born out of the 'necessity' (some of us have) to carry a GNU/Linux operating system everywhere. Knoppix fits in a standard CDROM that you can carry in a rucksack, a suitcase, in your car,... But it is not so 'wearable' for the daily use. MiniKnoppix takes up 200MB and can be toasted
in a 8 cm. CDROM. So you can carry it in your wallet, which is its goal.
MiniKnoppix is JUST Knoppix WITHOUT a HUGE amount of software. To sum up, MiniKnoppix does not have games, development tools/libs, most of the multimedia players, office tools,... MiniKnoppix has only one graphical environment (KDE), its browser (konqueror), mail, web and news text based clients (mutt, slrn, links) and lots of tools for system administration (backup/restore, filesystem check/creation, security, network testing, and more!).

¿Qué es un Linux Live CD?
Básicamente se trata de un sistema operativo GNU/Linux completo y perfectamente funcional que arranca y es ejecutado desde el CDROM. De esta forma se elimina la necesidad de instalación en disco duro.
¿Qué es Knoppix?
Knoppix es (posiblemente) el mejor Linux Live CD que existe hoy en día. La versión original ocupa un CD de 74 minutos (650MB) completo, y lleva más de 900 paquetes de software que incluyen aplicaciones ofimaticas, herramientas de desarrollo, reproductores multimedia, juegos, diferentes escritorios y casi cualquier cosa imaginable
¿Por qué MiniKnoppix?
MiniKnoppix surge ante la 'necesidad' (que tenemos algunos) de llevar un sistema GNU/Linux a todas partes. Knoppix ocupa un CD clásico y se lleva bien en la mochila, una maleta, el coche,... Pero no es tan llevable día a día vayas donde vayas. MiniKnoppix ocupa 200MB y puede grabarse en un CD de 8 centimetros. Por tanto MiniKnoppix puede llevarse en la cartera, lo que es su objetivo
MiniKnoppix NO es más que Knoppix SIN una GRAN cantidad de software.
MiniKnoppix solo tiene un entorno gráfico (KDE), su navegador (konqueror),mozilla firefox, clientes web, news y de correo en modo texto (mutt, slrn y links) y montones de utilidades para la administración de sistemas (backup/recuperacion, creación y chequeo de sistemas de archivos, seguridad, herramientas de red y más!)
