Zeca Baleiro began to perform in São Luís do Maranhão MA around 1975. After years acting as composer/interpreter in several cities like Belo Horizonte MG and São Paulo SP, he had his big break when Gal Costa invited him to appear in her special for Acústico MTV in 1997. His first two albums, Por Onde Andará Stephen Fry? and Vô Imbolá, won gold records. He was also nominated for the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Pop Album category. In 1999 he was awarded Best Singer by APCA (São Paulo's association of art critics), and in 1998 won three Sharp prizes in the pop/rock category, as best song, best album, and revelation. Songs off his first CD were chosen for soundtracks of TV Globo soap operas; "Samba do Approach" (off the second one) was included in TV Globo's series Mulheres. Baleiro has performed in Cannes (France), Montreux (Switzerland), Porto (Portugal), and Cartagena (Spain). He wrote the music of the show Mãe Gentil (Ivaldo Bertazzo), participated in the Os 5 no Palco project (with Lenine, Chico César, Paulinho Moska, and Marcos Suzano), as well as Songbook Chico Buarque, Balaio do Sampaio (a tribute to Sérgio Sampaio), and Projeto Lusofonia (Martinho da Vila). Baleiro produced the albums of Ceumar and Patrícia Amaral, and also had his video "Proibida Pra Mim" presented in the cinema.

Marisa Monte is unanimously recognized by critics and audiences as being a most remarkable phenomenon in Brazilian music in the last years.
Marisa did not need more than 18 months from her stage debut in a small Jazz Club in Rio, to her first platinum record. Marisa began studying music at the age of 14. She always loved popular Brazilian music, especially the great classical singers composers like Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Carmen Miranda and Elis Regina, amongst others.
On the other hand she was influenced, as was her generation, by the great names of Pop and Jazz International music. Marisa studied lyrical singing in Rome for 14 months. When she came back to Brazil she decided to be a pop singer. Her repertoire ranges from very old and popular traditional samba to Brazialian contemporary music as well as contemporary international music. After touring all the major cities in Brazil during 1989/90, Marisa Monte made her first international performances on the stages of the Montreux Jazz Festival (1990), Paris, Brussels, London, Berlin, Lisbon and New York. Her next step was the making of her second album entitled Mais, released worldwide and recorded partly in Brazil and partly in the USA. It was produced by Arto Lindsay with special guests like Ryuichi Sakamoto, John Zorn and Nana Vasconcelos.
The warm reception that her second album received internationally was the starting point for the extensive tours that took Marisa to the United States, Japan and Europe during the '91 and '92. She performed in 15 countries and was acclaimed both by audiences and critics, with enthusiastic reviews by major newspaper and magazine of these countries.

The seventh album from the Brasilian pop phenomenon daughter of a director of the Portela school of samba concentrates on just that: Sambas! Since no others leap to mind, I would have to say that Joao Bosco is the greatest civil engineer turned singer/songwriter in the history of Brazilian popular music. He graduated with his degree in 1972 but since then has been concentrating on becoming one of Brazil's most formidable songwriters. For most of his early career he supplied Elis Regina with some of her best material, indeed it could be said that each one made the other's career, but since her death, Bosco has stepped into the performance limelight with a great degree of authority and has been one of the more compelling figures in Brazilian music for the last 25 years.
Despite his growing popularity outside of his homeland, Bosco remains rooted in Brazil to the point of never leaving it for extended periods. So, while he remains somewhat obscure to American audiences, his music, rooted in Brazil's classic samba and bossa nova traditions, combines rock and roll, jazz and other ethnic styles in an eclectic brew that is a inventive and challenging as is he.

BIOGRAPHY

Although he started his career 16 years ago, Zeca Baleiro has only started to appear on the musical scene after taking part on Gal Costa's "MTV Acustico" in 1997.

"Together with two Golden Discs ("Por Onde Andara Stephen Fry ?" and "Vo Imbola") two Latin Grammy nominations for "Best Pop Album" (2000) and "Best Contemporary Pop Album ( 2001) , Baleiro has been collecting some TROPHIES such as APCA's Best Male Singer in 99 ( São Paulo's critics of art association) and the "Premio Sharp" in 98 pop-Rock category (best song, best album).
His first album "Por Onde Andara Stephen Fry ? " released in 97 MZA/Universal ) revealed a talented composer, with a strong personality and very sexy voice, sense of humor and sharp verve, criative poetry added to a very peculiar accoustic guitar playing. Charismatic, the artist enchants crowds of all ages wherever he performs.

"Vo Imbola" from 99 has escaped the feared "second album's syndrom" and has consolidated Baleiro's name besides stimulating his first album's sales.

After having his first album's songs in Globo tv's soap operas’ soundtracks and lauching two videoclips ("Bandeira" and "Heavy Metal do Senhor" directed by Alex Miranda), his second album had it's "Samba do Approach" included on a weekly serie also from Globo TV and a videoclip shot in Santa Tereza in Rio with the hilarious participation of Zeca Pagodinho besides dancers and drag queens everything under Joao Elias Jr's samba's pop point of view . The balad "Lenha" had also a sophisticated videoclip by Tadeu Jungle on the road-movie style and two special guests: Lobao and Walter Franco.

In his third album "Liricas" the artist changes his sonority radically, temporarily abandoning the rythims to valorize reflexion and poetry. The launching of "Proibida pra Mim"( Charlie Brown Jr) has been in a movie theather, the videoclip also directed by Tadeu jungle has been showed in many cities cinemas before the regular film, for a month.

From the same album's "Quase Nada" ( Zeca Baleiro/Alice Ruiz ) videoclip was shot in the "Lençois Maranhenses", the only beach with a desert of the world.
On the "Liricas Tour" has made a dream come true performing for a month in a theather: São Paulo's Tuca. In four years more than 340 shows, over more than 100 cities, performing for more than 200.000 people besides taking part in important events/festivals such as Montreaux festival, Cannes, Cartagena and Porto.

He has also been invited to European tours and, last september, the portuguese composer Sergio Godinho invited him to perform on the "Festa do Avante" in Lisbon.

Restless, Baleiro keeps getting involved in other projects such as "Mae Gentil" from choreographer Ivaldo Bertazzo in 2000 , acting and singing the soundtrack. He has produced two singers albuns (Ceumar and Patricia Amaral), taken part on the Chico Buarque's songbook and Martinho da Vila's project "Lusofonia".
Impossible not to notice his interpretation of "Tem Que Acontecer" on the album "Balaio do Sampaio" that has rescued this remarkable composer's Sergio Sampaio, his work and "Os Cinco No Palco" with Lenine, Chico Cesar, Paulinho Moska and Marcos Suzano , this project promoted by São Paulo's Sesc has toured many cities in 98 and is considered historical by the fans, being praised and required to take place again.

In 2001 Zeca has also broken his own record performing 112 shows with the "Liricas Tour" and another show with a little bit heavier band in a more danceable style.

In 2002 besides releasing a new album Zeca Baleiro is planning a honorship to the writer Hilda Hilst producing a cd with her poems made songs. On line there are other projects; Producing bassist Decio Rocha's album , and erotic album and a book of recepies.
